XXX told by management to dress "formal" for road trips

XXX Roll into St. Andrews Thursday night to take on Twisters
Jason McGrattan sets example for team

St. George, NB - Jason McGrattan has made it clear that he wants his team to look the part of a big league club and has insisted that they wear formal attire to all road games. McGrattan was photographed by the Hockey Voice Thursday morning in St. Andrews wearing a very sexy white outfit with purple high heels. "I can't ask the team to wear formal clothes and then show up in a pair of holy jeans," said McGrattan when asked about his duds.

Ratz Look Ahead, Not Back

Bonny River, NB - Certainly an 0-3 start wasn't what the Bonny River Ratz had hoped for. After three somewhat lopsided losses, the team has nothing to do but refocus on the task at hand and that is the next game Tuesday versus the championship squad, the Blacks Harbour Timberwolves. After missing the last two games, captain Joe Stevens met with reporters late Tuesday night after he heard the team lost another one to the Blackland Twisters 4-1.

"I heard that Taylor made a speech in the room after the second period and it shows how he is feeling the pressure of losing more than the rest of us. He noted that nobody is expecting anything from the rest of us as they don't have 800 + career goals. Now, on the surface that may sound a bit conceited, but I always believe that if it's true, it ain't bragging," said a very dejected Stevens.

McGrattan: "Way to go Moffitt, but I'm staying on the ground"

Jason McGrattan after a few cold pops

St. George, NB - Jason McGrattan said he just heard about Andrew Moffitt's new flying truck and although he applauds his efforts, he feels he would be better off on the ground.

"I like to have a few beer and get on this little ride I have. It's where I feel comfortable and if Moffitt wants to fly, he should fill his boots," said a very relaxed McGrattan late Monday.

Moffitt: Dodge Builds World's First Flying Truck

Andrew Moffitt (R) with Dodge Engineer

St. Stephen, NB - Ratz star Andrew Moffitt met with reporters late Monday to discuss his latest invention. Moffitt, the General Manager at Moffitt Dodge Chrysler in St. Stephen has built the world's first flying truck and it's a Dodge.

"We had a few pops and I climbed into 'er Sunday. I waited until she built up the power and I gave 'er all she had. It went for a long time but I was having trouble steering it. The people at the airport gave me a really hard time and then I landed on the roof of a restaurant. Make no mistake, I will perfect this and have it ready and on the market by next moose season," said a very shaken and stirred Moffitt.

Walsh Denies that he is a Jonas Brother

XXX down River Rodents in Sunday Night FIHL Action

The Lee Bros. - Eric Truman (L) and Shane (R)

Blacks Harbour – The St. George XXX took a 2-1 second period lead and blew it wide open in the third to beat the Bonny River Ratz 6-1. Thanks to great goaltending from Nick Ganong and an anemic Ratz attack, the XXX brought their season record to 1 win and 1 loss. The 0-2 Ratz got some spectacular saves from their goalie Warren Giesbrecht, but unfortunately, he could not score. The XXX got a pair of goals from Scott Matheson and singles from Chris Hill, Darryl Cook, Kris Van Horne and Matt Stuart. The only Ratz player to bend the twines was Jason McFarlane.

After the game, Jim Buchanan met with reporters to talk about the game. "We were a bit understaffed tonight with only 10 guys. We got Shane Lee into our lineup and that was a positive thing. The only thing is I think would have needed BRUCE LEE in order to win tonight."

McGrattan: “We’re fearful of Ratz attack”

Jason McGrattan answers questions at FIHL Press Conference

St. George, NB – The FIHL season is not even a week old and already teams are looking ahead to prepare for the upcoming opponents. Such was Jason McGrattan, the General Manager of the St. George XXX squad. McGrattan sat down with reporters late Thursday night to discuss the game with the powerful Bonny River Ratz and noted, “They lost their first game as we did. I know that Taylor and Co. will be coming hard and we have to be prepared. When they get the lead and put up the Rat Trap, it’s virtually impossible to penetrate. I hear that Moffitt and the new guy Eric MacDonald are both coming down so it will be interesting for sure. It’s too bad we couldn’t have had this game in the middle of deer season. I ain’t saying we got poop stains worrying about them, but it’s close. I just hope Ganong doesn't get hurt.”

Richardson: "I never knew what playing the Ratz was like"

Walsh Carries Richardson to Car After Game Against the Ratz

Matty Walsh (F) helps Chris Richardson to his car Sunday night

Blacks Harbour, NB - As if Chris Richardson had never seen Mark Taylor or the Bonny River Ratz play before, he seemed surprised after the game on Sunday. Richardson left the Ratz amid a controversy on contract talks and suited up against them for the first time. Richardson noted, "I never expected that. I guess you don't know all the moves and stuff when you're playing with those guys. I could hardly walk and needed help to get to my car."

Team GM Matty Walsh was sympathetic to Richardson's plight. He said, "Now he knows what I go through when I play those guys. I tip toed around all night thinking Taylor was going to lay a big bomb on me. We managed to keep him off the sheet, but we know that ain't happening much and we have to be prepared for it."

Movember - Changing the Face of Men's Health

Grow a Moustache to Raise Funds and Create Awareness for Prostate Cancer ResearchThe Fundy Industrial Hockey League has been registered and donation forms and receipt requests can be obtained from Mark Taylor. Here's the deal - you shave off your growth on October 31st, 2009 and for the whole month of November, you let your moustache grow. You can help raise money for prostate cancer research and have an excuse for looking really cool.
Here's where you can find out more information - http://ca.movember.com/mospace/your-donation-page#
The Ratz are on board with this worthy cause and Matty Walsh is in the process of bringing the Kingfishers on board. There is a picture posted above of the possibilities you can make your 'tache look like.
One of us may be stricken with this someday and we should do all we can to help out.
Justin Sweeney of NBCC St. Andrews fame has announced that he and the rest of his squad are in and has issued a challenge to the other teams that they can raise more dough than anybody. Sweeney added, "I can say without a doubt that we are in. I’m sure that I can get the boys behind the Movember campaign. I have been looking for an excuse for a very long time to grow a moustache and now I have one. Look out for looking."
Matty Walsh of the Fundy Kingfishers says, "I'm personally on board but will be talking to the boys about taking part. This is a great cause and everybody should embrace it big time. As far as styles go, I'm leaning toward rock star, but could conceivably be a trucker."

Matheson Upset over Remarks

Scott Matheson Arrives at Fundy Arena Monday

St. George, NB - Scott Matheson says he's offended by remarks made by members of the Hockey Voice and others in the area. Matheson met with reporters Monday and explained his frustration. He noted, "I bought this necklace on the weekend. It was either late Saturday night or early Sunday, I can't remember now. Anyway, that doesn't matter. I wore it out Sunday afternoon and Matty Walsh tells me it looks like shit. I mean, that hurts. I find people are jealous when you try to be a trendsetter and clearly his remarks are brought on by jealousy."

Joe Walsh Suspended at Hockey Voice (Again) Walsh at Hockey Voice Headquarters Monday

Bonny River, NB - It is not known what happened to Joe Walsh on Monday as he showed up at Hockey Voice Headquarters scantily clad to say the least. Walsh has been put on suspension by the award winning publication pending an internal investigation.

Walsh's brother Matty, who also works at the Hockey Voice, noted, "He scared some people with that outfit. I think I may have smelled booze on him too. He said he works out regularly so it's pretty scary to think what he must have looked like before. I guess he had a great Thanksgiving."

Ratz and FIHL Pay Tribute to Wayne Barrett

Ratz Line up for Pre-Game Ceremony

Blacks Harbour, NB - As the start of the 2009-2010 season approached, the players in the FIHL were filled with anticipation and as Sunday night got closer, a stark reality hit. The fact that Wayne Barrett would never hit the freeze with his buddies again was one that was tough to wrestle with even though many had attended his funeral or had spoke or visited with his family. To properly pay tribute to someone who was so involved with hockey was not an easy task. His family's blessing was instrumental in proceeding with it and without that, it would not have happened. Allene, Brooke and Brandon all deserve the tip of our hats to come down and endure yet another sad chapter in a book that have been full of them in the last two years.

There has been nothing but positive feedback from what the team did to show their love and appreciation for a dear friend and that means a great deal. When you plan something like this, you always have to be aware and we asked, "Is this what Wayne would want? Would Wayne approve of this? If Wayne was here and it was one of his teammates, would he be cool with this?" The answer to all three was yes in our minds.

Right down to picking a song that captured the sentiment of everybody at the rink was not easy. Going with something that is too sad and sappy or too upbeat is a fine line to walk. The lyrics, "All the good times we had, remember all the good ones, forget about all the bad," pretty say it all. As the song played and the jerseys rose, it was evident that all present who Wayne had touched were doing just that - remembering all the good times.

Josh Bagley and his bitch Frankie Richard

Kingfishers Spoil Ratz Season Opener

Blacks Harbour, NB – The archrival Fundy Kingfishers blew by the Bonny River Ratz 5-3 in the 2009-2010 season opener of the Fundy Industrial Hockey League. The game was never in question as the Kingfishers built up a 3-0 lead at the end of two periods and coasted from there.

Before the game a ceremony was held to pay tribute to Ratz player Wayne Barrett who lost his fight with cancer last July. Both of Barrett’s Ratz jerseys rose to the rafters to Tom Cochrane’s “Good Times.” The Ratz presented Wayne’s wife Allene and her daughter Brooke and son Brandon with Ratz jerseys emblazoned with the number 5 and Barrett on the back.

The Kingfishers were paced by Kenny Wright’s pair of goals while Chris Richardson, Matty Walsh and Jeff Ross potted singles. The Ratz offense sputtered all night but Jason McFarlane, Jack McNeill and Mark Johnson managed to bend the twine behind Kingfishers goalie Jamie Harris. Harris had the wall up all night and frustrated the Rodents shooters time and time again. Equally brilliant at the other end was Ratz tender Warren Giesbrecht who faced far more rubber and had far less support.

Ratz team captain Joe Stevens felt that although it wasn’t the result the Ratz desired, he did take some positives from the loss. Stevens added, “We are a team in transition with several new faces and they’re just trying to get used to all of our systems that we have in place. When everything clicks, this team will be a force to be reckoned with. I’m not saying this for sure, but we could very well be 23-1 at the end of the season.”

Kingfishers general manger Matty Walsh was happy with the win but also stressed that they may have caught the Ratz unprepared. He noted, “I don’t know if there is any such thing as a flat footed Rat but we may have seen a few of them tonight.”

In other FIHL action, the Blackland Twisters from St. Stephen down the Lepreau Pirates 8-2.

Ratz Star Eric Truman Lee

Bonny River, NB - Eric Lee would not reveal the amount he was paid for his likeness being published on a book cover, but said it will give him some "beer money." Truman added, "Hey when you play for the Ratz, this just the type of exposure you get. If you play in some of the small market places, nobody knows you. It took some getting used to, but I'm okay with it now."

Pennfield, NB – It had all the glitz and glamour that you would expect if two hockey superstars were to appear on a small town TV Auction. As Bonny River Ratz star Mark Taylor and Blacks Harbour Timberwolves General Manager Dan Levesque made their way through the hoards of onlookers, one would think there was a royal visit under way. The two icons along with host Morris Harris spoke of the trials and tribulations of playing in the FIHL and all the pressure on the players to succeed in such a hockey crazed area.

Levesque spoke briefly on his way out. He noted, “My agent never mentioned the length of time involved when I got booked, but I’m okay with everything as it was for a good cause. I got to trash some people on TV and that’s always enjoyable. Taylor tells me that it’s quite possible the show will be nominated for an Emmy but we’ll get cross that bridge when we come to that.”

Team to retire jersey of beloved coach, player, who died from cancer

BLACKS HARBOUR – The Blacks Harbour Junior Silverkings and the industrial league Bonny River Ratz will hold separate pre-game ceremonies this weekend to honour a friend and teammate, Wayne Barrett, who died last summer after a brave battle with cancer. The Silverkings will honour Barrett in a pregame ceremony Saturday night while the Ratz, Wayne’s team, will hold a ceremony before their Sunday night game.Barrett, of Back Bay, was diagnosed with cancer in November 2007 and at that time his friends from the local industrial hockey league organized a show of support as everybody knew the consequences when dealing with this affliction. He underwent many treatment sessions and in July of this year, he lost the battle. But before he passed, he found out how many friends he and his family had in the area. He even found support from an unexpected source as the famous entertainer, and one of Wayne’s idols, Larry the Cable Guy called him and wished him all the best.
Wayne was well-known on the local scene for his coaching, playing, and also as a fan who loved to go out and cheer on the locals. Wayne was voted minor hockey coach of the year in 2007-2008 season. This weekend, his friends will gather at the Fundy Arena in Blacks Harbour to show their appreciation in two separate pre-game ceremonies in Wayne’s honour. The local junior hockey team, the Blacks Harbour Junior Silver Kings, have retired the number 5 worn by Barrett on his industrial league team and the club will wear special patches as a tribute to Wayne. They plan a pre-game ceremony before their game Saturday night at 7:30 p.m., General Manager Geoff Cunningham said.“We felt this was a way to show that people do care for one another and that Wayne’s contributions didn’t go unnoticed,” Cunningham said. “I have known him for many years and he was a stand up guy who had passion for the game second to none. The whole hockey association from the smallest kids to the adult leagues are doing similar things as we are and I think it’s a great idea.”

Sunday at 7:40 p.m. the Bonny River Ratz, of the Fundy Industrial Hockey League, will hold a sweater retirement ceremony for Barrett. Wayne’s wife, Allene, and their daughter, Brooke, and son, Brandon, will be in attendance as his number 5 will rise to the rafters. “This is something that we planned a while ago and got the blessing of the family before proceeding,” said Wayne’s friend and long-time Ratz teammate Mark Taylor. “The core of our team has been together for a long time and Wayne was a part of that and we do not want to forget him. We are planning something that we know Wayne would have approved of and appreciated immensely.”

Justason on Trip to Grand Manan, Ratz hope to have him back for tonight's tilt

Ratz Star Greg Justason on his way back from Grand Manan

Bonny River, NB - Due to travel plans gone bad, Ratz star Greg "Crusty" Justason was not available to play Sunday night. Justason was away on business in Grand Manan all week and due to scheduling problems, his vessel didn't arrive in time to play. Team captain Joe Stevens said, "We're not worried about Justason. We know he's in great shape as he always is when the puck drops. I think that some of the other teams should be worried as we feel this will be another breakout year for him. Stay tuned on this one. If he gets back on the BIG LINE with me and Taylor, he will do some damage."

Stevens Still Mum on New Signing

Joe Stevens Keeping Things Under Wraps

Bonny River, NB - The 2009-2010 season gets under way this Sunday and Ratz Team Captain Joe Stevens is keeping his cards close to his chest. Stevens noted, "If it's really killing you and you really have to know who the last piece to our puzzle is, come down to the Fundy Arena tonight. This guy will be suiting up for us in our second exhibition game. We appreciate Shane Watson's contributions to the club and wish him all the best in his future endeavours. We have moved on and this would have to qualify as a major addition to the Ratz. No further questions please."

Matty Walsh Hopes for Better Result on Tuedsay

Watson Announces Retirement

Shane Watson (Front) Announces Retirement from Ratz

Bonny River, NB - As training camp winds down, and roster moves are still being made, Shane Watson announced he will not be joining the Ratz for the 2009-2010 season. A club official said he spoke to Watson Monday and confirmed the news. The retirement of Watson and the mentioning of new signings coming soon, have fueled speculation that the Ratz are on the verge of making a bombshell deal. Joe Stevens mentioned the team was not done dealing yet but refused to go in to any further details as it had not been finalized with the player (s) and double-checked for cap issues.

New Look Ratz Impressive in Exhibition Tilt

Rick McFarlane impressive in Ratz debut
Josh Young (C) hopes to crack line up
Keith Hoyt turned some heads in initial outing with the Ratz

Bonny River, NB - The Ratz started Sunday night's exhibition game versus the Fundy Kingfishers with three new hopefuls in the lineup. Josh Young (also known as his rap name Young Josh), Keith Hoyt and Rick McFarlane were chomping at the bit to make an impact on the Ratz staff. The three waited anxiously as team captain Joe Stevens came into the dressing room with his summation of their performances.

Stevens said, "Well, McFarlane and Young popped a couple goals and Hoyt carried the water bottles back to the dressing room so I'd have to say we're satisfied with them so far. We think we have the right combination here right now and look forward to seeing what some of the others can do. I don't want to say too much, but it appears the Ratz may not be done yet with offseason signings. That's all I can say right now."

Harris Dissatisfied with Walsh Roster Moves

Harris Sounds off
Kingfishers Partner and Assistant GM Jamie Harris

Blacks Harbour, NB - The shock waves were still being felt at Kingfishers Headquarters Friday morning as Assistant General Manager Jamie Harris stormed away from reporters. Harris was visibly distraught by the string of roster moves made by his partner Matty Walsh.

Harris noted in a top secret press release to the Hockey Voice, "I've got to start exercising my 50 % ownership in the Kingfishers. As Stevens said, we are picking up other people's castaways. I think Walsh is taking it personal, as he too is a castaway of the Ratz. Before you know it, it will be Walsh, Richardson, O'Halloran, up front for the Kingfishers, with Monaghan and Frost on the point and Dugas between the pipes as the starting line for the Kingfishers; all castaways of the Ratz. I will not let this happen. And it's one thing for Walsh to hold a grudge against a team that told him to walk, but what did the Lepreau team ever do to him to want him to steal Matt Dewar off their active roster? I remember going to the circus when I was a kid and watching the guy walk around behind the elephants catching all the big turds. I guess Matty Walsh must have been at the same circus I was."

Richardson Signs 1 Year Deal with Kingfishers

Richardson Pisses Away Hockey Career
Former Ratz Bench Warmer Chris Richardson

Bonny River, NB - The news about disgruntled player Chris Richardson signing a one year deal with the Fundy Kingfishers was received with surprise at Ratz headquarters Friday morning. Team captain Joe Stevens said, "We wish Richardson all the best with his new team. As I have noted in the past, it is amazing what junk people will pick up when you throw stuff away. This has joke written all over it. Just when I thought Walsh had scraped the barrel dry, he comes up with something like this."

Meanwhile, Richardson was philosophical in his summation of the deal. He noted, "It’s disappointing to be let go by the Ratz but the pressure to perform was too much to handle. Playing with legends like Taylor, Stevens and Moffitt have helped me improve my game but not enough to stick with the big club. My role was with the Ratz for 2009-2010 would have been one of carrying water bottles and stuff. It has been a valuable experience but I am looking forward to suiting up for the Kingfishers in the 2009-2010 season."

St. George, NB - Jason McGrattan says he wants to caution people that sometimes the odds makers are wrong and that his team is ready to challenge this year. Walsh: "Ratz Ranked #1 in Las Vegas"

Ratz Assistant Captain Jim Buchanan

Bonny River, NB - The 2009-2010 season can't start fast enough for Jim Buchanan. He has been on a steady regiment all summer and is pumped to say the least. Buchanan noted, "Taylor has once again surprised me with the quality of guys he has signed. Just about all of our team could at least play in the AHL and some even higher. Keith Hoyt, Eric MacDonald, Rick McFarlane and Josh Young are all household names. Someone was saying this will be another breakout year for Taylor and you know that's not a good sign for the rest of the league. I've got really strong fingers to hold onto his coattails and I'm going along for the ride and what a ride it will be. Peace."

Meanwhile, Hockey Voice VP of Photography Matty Walsh revealed what most people already knew. The Bonny River Ratz are ranked #1 in Las Vegas according to recent publications.

Harris Undergoes Major Operation to Help out with Goaltending

Kingfishers Goalie Jamie Harris After Operation

Blacks Harbour, NB - Jamie Harris says that as you get older, your ability to do the things you used to do become more difficult. Harris added, "When you have guys like Taylor and a few others buzzing around the net, you can't always see what they're up to. Now with this operation, I'll be able to look behind the net as easy as the front without turning completely around. I was sore for awhile but I'm fine now. I can't wait to get going to try it out."

Kingfishers to Try New Playtex Equipment in 2009-2010

Chris Hoffman Models New "T Pads"

Blacks Harbour, NB - Matty Walsh says his club has signed a new deal with Playtex and they are wearing a revolutionary new product. Walsh said, "It's called the T Pad and it protects the chest area primarily. Hoffman tried it out and said it's comfortable and offers great support and protection. We hope that it will catch on and perhaps other teams will follow suit. When you're blocking shots, you want to be protected everywhere."
